Baked potatoes
It is the beginning of January when we decide to cook a dish that can only be found here: "Sült pityóka káposztalével" - baked potatoes. 200 years ago it was a nutritious winter meal for poor people, as only a few ingredients are needed.
First of all salt is sprinkled on a baking tray. Washed but unpeeled potatoes are placed on this "carpet" and baked for at least 45 minutes.
The potatoes on the plate are crushed with the bare fist, and butter, onion and túró-cheese are placed on top.
Ingredients (amount variable):
- potatoes
- salt
- onion
- túró-cheese
- butter
Traditionally, it is served with a kind of cabbage water, which is prepared the previous autumn and, together with a lot of salt, provides plenty of vitamins.
